Charity Working Gundog Tests
Summer 2018 Results

After two cancellations, the March test wiped out in blizzard conditions and the August one sweltering in the extreme heat, we final chose the most excellent warm and sunny day on Sunday.

With over 120 dogs being entered, this year's main Summer tests were a great success, raising £1300 for our 'Wild Spaces Fund".

In addition to our usual tests, this year we introduced a pheasant pickup scurry, which proved very popular. Ann Gladwin won the event with her Golden Retriever Timber, in a staggeringly fast 17 Seconds.

It was good to see so many KWCA members attending, either to compete and help out, or just watch the dogs work.

The ever popular catering van supplied us with hot food and refreshments, a big thank you to the catering staff.

This year's tests included:
Rabbit run; causing lots of chaos with plenty of dogs running after the furry dummy.
A box jump with a distraction into water; definitely a test of control as the dogs were asked to fetch a blind retriever on the grass first.
Mallard pick up; a very simple looking test to find two out of three dummies on the other side of a ditch, after a short swim of 6 yards, this test proved very difficult for some, with many dogs determine to search the grassy marsh rather than the opposite dirch bank.
Duck splash; a seen retrieve thirty yards away on the far side of a fleet, most dogs swam across very well, but then got lost on the bank. Eventually after some handling the dummy would be found.

Overall winner: Bill Warnett with his Golden Retriever Pip, takes the Top Winning Trophy for the third year running!
Highest placed KWCA member: Tom Sage with his Labrador Blaze, awarded the Glass Trophy.
Best Novice dog: Vaughan Ford with his Labrador Vinny wins the Novice Trophy.
Best Novice retriever in the retriever test: Neil Mullins with his Labrador Evie, awarded the new Doug Cudby Shield.

The hire of two toilets for this event proved very popular and a necessity given the numbers of people attending.

A big thank you to all the Judges and helpers who made the event such a success, and also to all those competitors taking part making the day raise so much money for 'The Wild Spaces Fund'.

A special thank you to Mr. Lawrence for renting us the Marsh.
